NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vocativ (Vocativ.com) launches today as a groundbreaking news organization for people in their 20s and 30s. Using a combination of proprietary technology, advanced methodology and fearless journalism, Vocativ tells stories that matter to millennials around the globe.

There is an untapped world of invaluable information hidden in the vast digital space ? and until now no news organization has had the ability find it. Vocativ navigates the Deep Web to make sense of the 80 percent of the open Internet that search engines don't reach: public social media posts, open databases and records. The company, headquartered in New York City, discovers and verifies sources all around the world, identifying trends, patterns and, most importantly, people with new experiences and perspectives. The announcement was made by Vocativ Founder Mati Kochavi.

Says Mr. Kochavi: "The media and the world's elite were blindsided by the two biggest stories of the past decade: the Arab Spring and the global financial meltdown. Vocativ's technology can analyze the Deep Web to find the ideas and voices that previously went unheard. It's a big data approach to journalism: In order to understand what millions of people think, you need new technology and methodology. It's no longer the voices of the few, it's the voices of the many."

Vocativ marries this technology and methodology with a team of experienced journalists ?reporters, producers, videographers, editors ? from some of the world's biggest news outlets.

Vocativ CEO Scott Cohen explains: "Vocativ is able to home in on the stories and voices of the social media generation, which is engaged, hopeful and energized unlike any other before it. This is our new generation of leaders, and Vocativ is all about the issues that matter most to it."

Mr. Kochavi continues: "The social media revolution has changed the world. People have more power than ever before ? the power to speak openly and freely to friends and world leaders, to neighbors or to people on the other side of the world.

"To date, journalism has been focused on governments, geopolitics and big business to understand the world. Vocativ focuses on people and what they think, what they dream about and what they want to achieve. This is where Vocativ lives."

Vocativ has been in beta for more than a year while its technology and methodology have been tested and refined. The company has a staff of more than 50 analysts, engineers and journalists from news organizations, including The Wall Street Journal, Vice, ESPN, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, ABC News, Fox News, Newsweek/Daily Beast, The New York Daily News, NBC News, RAI, CNN and Reuters.

While in beta, Vocativ broke a number of important stories, including its report on assault rifle giveaways on Facebook, which led to a change in policy at the social network; a video documentary about a "village of stolen kidneys"; and, in Syria, some of the first reporting on the evidence of chemical weapons attacks and a series of interviews with Syrian Electronic Army hackers.

Mati Kochavi is the founder of Vocativ. Marty Edelman serves the company's US chairman.
